Froch Survives Stern Dirrell Test

Carl Froch held on to his WBC super middle weight title last night in front of his home crowd with a split decision victory over Andre Dirrell in Nottingham's Trent Arena.

The fight was very close with Dirrell using his superior hand and foot speed to out box Froch but Froch kept up the pressure landing telling blows on Dirrell when he could catch him.
Dirrell's movement clearly frustrated Froch, leading Froch to give Dirrell something akin to a judo throw after a clinch in the fifth round.

Dirrell was docked a point in the 10th round for excessive holding thus began to mount a spirited offence landing some clean left hands and this carried on into the 11th catching Froch with a left hook that appeared to daze the man from Nottingham.

Into the 12th round Dirrell began aggressively letting both lefts and rights fly but Froch continued to stalk Dirrell and forced Dirrell back into defensive mode as the fight drew to a conclusion.

The decision was in the air, one judge scored it 114-113 for Dirrell but this was nullified by two scores of 115-112 for Froch, who improves to 26-0 (20KO) with the win.
